Q: What are the differences between XFP and SFP+ optical modules?

A: (1) They differ in appearance, and SFP+ is smaller in size compared to XFP;

(2) Functionally, XFP optical modules, unlike SFP+ modules, include signal modulation capabilities, serializers/deserializers, MAC, clock and data recovery (CDR), as well as electronic dispersion compensation (EDC) functions. Therefore, when a switch/router does not integrate these functionalities on its motherboard, an XFP module is needed to弥补this gap.

(3) They adhere to different protocols, with XFP following the XFP MSA agreement, while SFP+ complies with IEEE 802.3ae, SFF-8431, and SFF-8432 standards.
