Q、Precautions when connecting 10G SFP+ optical modules to switches

A、1. Ensure both ends of the switches use optical modules with matching wavelengths, transmission distances, and consider whether they are single-/multi-mode and single-/dual-fiber. If mismatches occur, use the appropriate converter.

2. Avoid electrostatic discharge and physical impact when handling optical modules. If a module is dropped or bumped, it’s advisable not to continue using it.

3. Pay attention to the orientation of the optical module during insertion, with the pull tab and label facing upward.

4. When inserting the module into the switch, push firmly until it reaches the bottom, feeling a slight click. Gently tug the module afterward to confirm proper installation. 5. To remove the module, first, pull the latching lever to a 90-degree angle from the optical port before gently extracting the module.

Q、About SFP+ Optical Modules

A、SFP+ optical modules are an upgrade from SFP (also known as “mini-GBIC”). SFP has been widely adopted in Gigabit Ethernet and 1G, 2G, 4G Fiber Channel applications. SFP+ modules cater to higher data rate demands.

In terms of wavelengths: There are 850nm/1310nm/1550nm/1490nm/1530nm/1610nm options available. Modules operating at 850nm are multimode SFP, with transmission distances under 2KM. Those operating at 1310nm/1550nm are single-mode, capable of distances beyond 2KM. These three wavelengths tend to be more cost-effective compared to others.

Q、Advantages of SFP+ Optical Modules

A、1. SFP+ offers a smaller form factor compared to X2 and similar packaging, identical in size to SFP;

2. It is directly interoperable with other form factors like XFP, X2, and XENPAK;

3. It incurs lower costs compared to XFP, X2, and XENPAK products.
