Q、Can an SFP port connect to an RJ45 port?

A、Yes, it can. For instance, to connect a 1G SFP switch to a 1G RJ45 switch, we just need to use a Gigabit Ethernet copper module on the 1G SFP switch. Since the copper module features an SFP port on one end and an RJ45 interface on the other, insert the SFP end into the 1G SFP switch, and then an Ethernet cable connects the RJ45 side of the copper module to the RJ45 port of the 1G RJ45 switch.

Q、What types of SFP optical modules are there?

A、SFP optical modules are small form-factor pluggable transceivers widely used in the telecommunications industry. They come in various types, such as BIDI-SFP, Ethernet SFP, CWDM SFP, DWDM SFP, and SFP+ modules. Additionally, compared to similar modules like XFP, X2, and XENPAK, SFP modules not only offer direct compatibility but also have a lower cost advantage.

Q、What is the difference between the electrical interface module SFP-GE-T and optical interface modules?

A、The electrical interface module SFP-GE-T and optical interface modules differ in their signal transmission modes and application scenarios:

  • Signal Transmission: Electrical interface modules transmit signals using electrical signals, whereas optical interface modules use optical signals. Optical signal transmission offers higher bandwidth and speed, making it suitable for long-distance communication.
  • Usage Environment: Electrical interface modules are suited for short-range transmissions and small network environments like offices or home networks. Optical interface modules, on the other hand, are designed for large-scale networks, such as data centers and enterprise networks.

Q、Are Gigabit Ethernet ports interoperable with 100Mbps ports? Can Gigabit Ethernet ports also interoperate with 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports?

A、Gigabit Ethernet ports can directly interoperate with 100Mbps ports, but the data transfer rate will be limited to the slower 100Mbps Ethernet standard. When connecting a Gigabit port to a 100Mbps port, the transmission speed is capped accordingly.

For interoperability between Gigabit and 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports, reliance on additional equipment like switches is necessary. While they can interoperate through a switch, the transmission rate remains limited by the slower port. It’s important to note that such interconnectivity assumes that the 10 Gigabit Ethernet port supports Gigabit speeds.

Q、How long is the warranty period for Walsun’s 1G SFP transceivers?

A、Our optical modules come with a warranty period of 3 years. This warranty covers defects occurring under normal usage conditions and excludes damages or malfunctions resulting from misuse, abuse, negligence, modifications, power issues, failure to follow product instructions, natural causes, or incorrect installation, operation, or repairs by non-Walsun or unauthorized Walsun service providers.
