HPE Aruba JL485A Compatible 25G SFP28 ESR Transceiver Module (850nm MMF 200m/OM3 300m/OM4 LC DDM)
The 25G SFP28 ESR transceivers are high-performance, cost-effective modules supporting a data rate of 25.78 Gbps over multimode fiber. The transceiver consists of three sections: a VCSEL laser transmitter, a PIN photodiode integrated with a trans-impedance preamplifier (TIA), and an MCU control unit. All modules satisfy class I laser safety requirements. The transceivers are compatible with SFP Multi-Source Agreement and SFF-8472 digital diagnostics functions.

Q:What are the advantages of 25G SFP28 modules?

Q:How to handle interface alarm information?

A:First determine the alarm type, whether it is a “not supported”, “unknown”, “unqualified”, etc. or a transmitting and receiving optical power alarm. If the first situation occurs, it is because the module is incompatible with the device and needs to be replaced with another compatible module; if the latter situation occurs, you need to check whether the module is faulty or there is a problem with the matching jumper.

Q:What is the maximum supported distance for 25G SFP28 transceivers?

A:The maximum currently supported distance for 25G is 40km using SFP-25G-ER transceiver module. Additional optics may be released in the future to support longer distances.

Q:Are 25G SFP28 transceivers of different brands interoperable with each other?

A:It depends on the SFP28 standards with which the 25G transceivers are compliant. As long as the 25G SFP28 transceivers meet the associated industry standard specifications,they are fully interoperable.

Q:Can I use SFP28 transceivers in SFP+ ports?

A:Optical transceivers support the fixed speed as they are manufactured. The link could be down when using SFP28 transceiver for SFP+ link.

Q:Can I use SFP+ transceivers in SFP28 ports?

A:Theoretically, the answer is yes. The link speed is limited to 10Gbps though.

Q:Can I connect SFP28 ports with QSFP28 ports?

A:Yes, it is available by configuring the QSFP28 100G transceiver to work at 4*25G breakout mode, and use the supported hardware to connect SFP28 ports with QSFP28 ports, such as QSFP28 to SFP28 DAC/AOC breakout cable or MTP-LC breakout cable with one 100G QSFP28 optical module is used on one side and four 25G SFP28 optical modules used on the other side as the following figure shows.
