Brocade XBR-000153 Compatible 8G SFP+ LW Transceiver Module (1310nm SMF 10km LC DDM)
Compatible 8G Fibre Channel SFP+transceivers are high-performance, cost-effective modules supporting a data rate of 8.5Gbps and a 10km transmission distance with SMF. The Module provides 8Gb/s throughput up to 10km over single-mode fiber (SMF) using 1310nm wavelength. This transceiver is fully compliant with SFP+ Multi-Source Agreement (MSA) and FCIA FC-PI-4 800-SM-LC-L standard. Its electrical interface is MSA compliant 20-pin edge-type connector and the optical interface is a Duplex LC connector. The full-duplex SFP+ transceiver features a highly reliable DFB transmitter and PIN photodetector to offer high-performance interconnection at an 8 Gbps data rate.

How to Choose the Correct SFP+ Module?
We help more than 1400 clients choose the suitable SFP+ transceiver quickly. Here are the essential tips.
- Check your switch (or other network devices) port-supported speed and match the correct SFP+.
- Know your existing network cabling types. If you have a multimode fiber cabling structure, choose the multimode SFP+. A single mode transceiver is the only choice if you have single mode fiber cabling.
- Know your target link distance and link budget. But remember, choose an SFP+ supporting longer transmission distances than expected. Otherwise, poor fiber optic cable or a dirty fiber end-face may cause a failed link.
- Considering the operating temperature. For a typical indoor environment, using a commercial-grade SFP+ transceiver is enough. While in harsh outdoor applications, you should use the industrial transceiver.
- Remember to check compatibility with the vendor before ordering. Because the switch will not identify an incompatible transceiver, you will waste money and time. As a result, always use a known compatible transceiver.
Can 1G SFP Optics Run at 10G SFP+ Port?
SFP+ slots can take SFP modules, most do but not all. It may depend greatly on the switch models. SFP+ ports often accept SFP optics but at a reduced speed of 1Gb. And sometimes this port will lock the speed at 1Gb until you reload the switch or do some fancy set of commands. Besides, the SFP+ port usually don’t support speed under 1G. That is to say, you can’t plug the 100BASE SFP in the SFP+ port.
If you are unsure about the connectivity, it is suggested that you consult the vendor to make sure the 10Gb switch port supports dual rate before plugging an SFP transceiver into the SFP+ port on your 10Gb switch. Here are three popular switches whose 10G SFP+ ports can take 1G SFP optic modules.

FAQs About 10G SFP+ Transceivers
Q: SFP vs. SFP+. What is the difference?
A: The critical difference is the data transmission speed. SFP supports the typical rate of 155M, 1.25G, and 2.5G, whereas the SFP+ support 10G and 8G/16GFC.
Q: What is the maximum transmission distance SFP+ module?
A: It depends on the SFP+ speed. Take the 10G SFP+ as an example; most vendors provide an 80km version, but Walsun may provide an ultra-long distance of 100km over single mode fiber.
Q: Can I connect an SFP+ with an XFP module?
A: The answer is yes. But make sure that they have the same transmission speed and wavelength. Or else they will fail to establish a link.
